My opinion of charities based on their sustainable results both physically and spiritually, therefore… I like Compassion International and World Vision. Compassion International for sponsoring children, b/c they meet the physical needs of food, shelter and water and the spiritual needs by providing a Christian education.
I also like World Vision for many reasons but specifically their donating animals portion. The animals provide needed food for years (ie: goats give milk for 10 years or more, ducks provide eggs weeks etc) and they give them in Jesus name.
I love the verse: Matthew 25:40

My church just did a shoe drop wit TOMS. It’s an amazing ministry!

I just watched “The Entrepreneurs” on CNBC and they had an episode on the founder of TOMS. Great story of how it all started. They expect to give over 300,000 shoes away this year.
On a large scale, United Way is an awesome organization that helps other organizations with funding…I love that TOMS shoes gives a pair of shoes for everyone you purchase…locally, I support Brother Bill’s Helping Hand, which benefits people in West Dallas…Texas Baptist Men is another organization that helps people in emergency situations…
YMCA - Christian mission with a practical purpose. They don’t turn anyone away for financial need. They are truly about building strong kids, families and communities. See http://ourconvo.com/ymca
Red Cross - they are the people side of disaster. You probably won’t think to support them until they show up whenever your house burned down or was flooded, but without them you may be left with nothing or no one.

Buckner International (http://www.buckner.org/). I love their Shoes for Orphans Souls program (http://www.shoesfororphansouls.org/) among others.
I am a big supporter of the YMCA & Red Cross.
