Do Good
September 17th, 2009 at 3:06 pmwhat if there was a website for doing micro good - small acts of good right from your computer. as long as you are participating in the website you are contributing…not sure what could be done… notes of encouragement, technical help.
maybe instead of micro good, it is a database of connecting skilled workers with needs in their community and around the world? (this is a non-profit idea of a friend of mine).
i just want to make doing good a practical thing…
Roady Trip

Best Hamburger in Dallas
July 28th, 2009 at 3:18 pmlooks like i will have to try out Willy’s then. it’s not as hard to get a good burger as it is to get one that is worth the cost.
Roady Trip
June 1st, 2009 at 10:30 pmmost of the way we are going to camp, but in KC we are already staying with a friend’s family. thanks though! i love BBQ, so we will check that out.
not a coffee drinker and could do without Sbux forever (terrible, right?).
what low down do you have on Chicago? We have the tower & Gino’s pizza on the list.
this trip is just for kicks and giggles. about 5 hrs of driving each day (more on the front, less on the back-end).
Michigan Prof. Email to Muslim Students
May 6th, 2009 at 10:49 ambiggest problem is it seems like an over generalization of people. then, it’s also problematic that the prof, in an authoritative position, represents the university - not just self.
i am not one for politically correctness for that sake only, but everyone should be careful who they are attacking. i think the protest and the letter are a bit too broad for my likings.
Swine Flu
May 1st, 2009 at 2:58 pmin case you missed his remarks, you should see them: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rw1h2t355Bo
absolutely ludicrous for a leader to be saying that.
Swine Flu
May 1st, 2009 at 2:32 pmLet’s talk personal responsibility versus preparedness organizations should have…
Personally, I think it is all dramatized. I am not going to avoid going around people, etc.
However, if I was the superintendent of a school or president of a university, I would much rather do too much. For instance, my alma mater has more supplies than would fathom from preparation for the Bird Flu. They also set a standard that all classes should have at least one online class per term in order to get everyone comfortable with online teaching in case of any sort of tragedy. I think the campus could close and class remain as scheduled.
If things are contained all this if over near instantly. If we act dumb and take no precaution there is a possibility (arguably quite small) that we could experience a 1918 type pandemic.

April 30th, 2009 at 12:23 pmIf you enter their habitat you should play by appropiate rules of defense.
Stay out of the woods pregnant woman!

What's your favorite coffee shop?
April 14th, 2009 at 11:53 amCafe Brazil is a great chain in Dallas - best on is off 75 or the one in Deep Ellum. Open 24 hrs.
Another neat on is Mug & Mouse (one near the old Cowboy stadium). It is in the Asian part of town, but open real late, and full of culture.

Boy In the Striped Pajamas
April 9th, 2009 at 2:24 amas the credits roll after completing this movie i am in awe. WWII was horrid anyway, but this certainly makes it hit home at the innocence of those killed. i am not sure it was a great movie, but i think any story about the Holocaust is heart-wrenching.

April 8th, 2009 at 5:18 pmi have skydived with both you guys!
life lessons
April 8th, 2009 at 2:22 pmi have seen a lot of tragedy and very convicted that we are not guaranteed tomorrow. you better live today like it is the last day of your life - do things that really matter. people and relationship really matter. be a giver.

slumdog
April 3rd, 2009 at 11:40 amif you can afford $9 for a matinee, it is still at Grapevine Mills, but for the North Dallas snobs you also still see it at the Angelika (cheaper). it is a good one to see in the theaters too - lots of details and well depicted.
In and Out Burger
April 3rd, 2009 at 11:15 amhad my first in & out experience about a month go in San Francisco. greatness. really liked the shakes. have no idea about there expansion plans.
How do I start my own art-based company?
April 3rd, 2009 at 11:14 amYou can operate your business as a sole proprietorship if you don’t have a lot of personal assets - this attaches the liability of someone suing to your SS# (if you were making a lot of money you should form a LLC - Limited Liability Company).
Buy a .com - GoDaddy is near the cheapest, but certainly has the best customer service. You then can install Wordpress (a blog format), but has tons of easy themes and plugins that can make it look nothing like a blog.
Then you should open a Google Checkout sellers account. No monthly fees and super easy to have a shopping cart. You pay near industry low of 3% for credit card processing.
While, I cannot do it for ya, I can answer your questions when you get stuck and searching Google does not prevail.
Healthcare Right of Conscience
April 2nd, 2009 at 11:14 amI think an example of this would be doctors who are Pro Life would be required to perform abortions? As long as we are able to choose our doctors (which I hope forever), then this regulation doesn’t make sense. There are other places a person could go.
Sweet Tea
April 1st, 2009 at 10:00 pmRudy’s BBQ (best tasting and love the food to accompany it) & McAllister’s (32oz of goodness)

April 1st, 2009 at 9:59 pmdo you want one big church on the side of the street? effective churches with good church discipline (and such) are typically smaller. you live in the Bible Belt and there are going to be a lot of churches.
i am not so sure that i feel divided because of denominations. i know which i believe are Christian and believe they have the same RELATIONSHIP that I do - rather than a religion or denomination.
Photo Tips
April 1st, 2009 at 9:54 pmLet me give you a couple of websites:
Remove Backgrounds From Photos For Free With Fotoflexer (http://fotoflexer.com/)
PhotoPerfect Express is a free, powerful image optimization tool that covers a wide range of photo enhancement scenarios, and can provide casual photographers with great results. (http://www.arcadiasoftware.com/photoperfect-express.html)
Avoid Mediocre Portraits with These Tricks (http://digital-photography-school.com/10-ways-to-take-stunning-portraits)
And John, yes I think there is an alternative, I am just not sure what it is…
Favorite Charities
April 1st, 2009 at 9:49 pmI am a big supporter of the YMCA & Red Cross.
YMCA - Christian mission with a practical purpose. They don’t turn anyone away for financial need. They are truly about building strong kids, families and communities. See http://ourconvo.com/ymca
Red Cross - they are the people side of disaster. You probably won’t think to support them until they show up whenever your house burned down or was flooded, but without them you may be left with nothing or no one.
Project 25:40
April 1st, 2009 at 9:46 pmi love that you two are involved in this convo together - two of the most passionate charity organizers I know.
annoyance - i think you have to be smart with your marketing. give people the option to opt in and opt out of receiving info. people are not shy to let you know what you think, but you will always feel guilty - especially if they are mainly your friends and family.

March 31st, 2009 at 5:36 pmwhich quote? i tried to start the “discussion” without stating my side on it.
